Job title: PAT Tester & Retail Assistant

Overview: The primary part of the role is function and PAT (safety) testing of electrical items. In addition you will help ensure the smooth running of the retail side of the business. This role involves providing excellent customer service to all visitors — including individual shoppers and trade customers — and supporting the wider team to maintain a welcoming, organised, and efficient store environment. The role also plays an active role in supporting participants.

Hours: 5 days a week, to include a minimum of 2 full weekends every 4 weeks.

Actual working patterns will be discussed with successful applicants but full days are required (Mon-Sat: 8am-4:30pm, Sun: 9am-4pm)

Reports to: ReUsers Supervisors

Pay: National Minimum Wage

Key tasks and responsibilities:

Specific tasks will include but will not be limited to:

  • Function, PAT testing and pricing electrical items prior to sale

  • Providing great customer service to both internal and external customers. This could include:

    • Assisting customers to find the products they are looking for

    • Dealing with customer queries

    • Loading and unloading customers’ vehicles

    • Taking payments via an EPOS system and handling payments

    • Accepting new donations

    • Sorting and processing collected items

  • Stock control including moving and displaying stock, lifting weights up to 25kg (males) and 15kg (females)

  • Maintaining high standards of hygiene and safe working practices which ensure the health and safety and security of the public, staff and volunteers

  • Acting as a role model to all staff and participants

  • Any other reasonable duties requested by your line manager

Essential Criteria:

  • A valid, current PAT testing qualification

  • Excellent customer service skills, with a minimum of 12 months experience

  • Able to work with minimal supervision

  • Ability to lift and carry stock within required weight limits and be able to stand for the majority of the shift

  • Experience of supporting or training colleagues

  • Good time keeping and reliable

  • Able to get a DBS certificate that is satisfactory to us (we will pay for the DBS check)

Desirable Criteria:

  • Customer service qualification

  • Knowledge of specific areas of stock

  • Experience of charity shops/ retail

  • Experience of working with a wide range of people including those with the challenges to employment our participants have
